Shifts billing and plans
After signing up, you’ll receive a 14-day free trial. Once the trial ends, you’ll need to select a subscription plan to continue.

Create Subscription
When subscribing, you can choose between 3 plans:
- Free plan – if you are up to 5 users and don't need extra features
- Monthly subscription – charged every month.
- Annual subscription – a full year of access at a significantly discounted rate.
Clicking "Pay now" will redirect you to the Stripe checkout page to complete your subscription.
Free Plan Limits
The Free plan is completely free to use but comes with a few limitations. Most importantly, it supports a maximum of 5 users per account.
In addition, several advanced team settings are not available on the Free plan, as shown in the screenshot:
- No “Publish new shifts” option – Shifts are published immediately and visible to employees as soon as they are created. There is no separate draft/publish workflow.
- No “Allow users to pick up open shifts” – Only admins can assign open shifts; users cannot claim them on their own.
- No “Allow users to see who is working on a specific date” – Users can't view who else is scheduled to work on the same day.
- No “Record clock-in location” – The system will not track where an employee clocks in.
- No “Allow manual time entries” – Employees can only track time using clock-in/clock-out buttons; manual input is not available.
- No “Allow team chat” – Employees can't send direct or group messages within the platform.
How to Change Your Plan
If you’d like to update your subscription, go to "Settings" > "Billing" in your account. There are several important options available there:
- Click "Change plan" to switch between monthly and annual billing.
- Click "Cancel subscription" to stop your subscription.
- Click "Update" under Payment Method to change your credit card.
- Click "Transfer ownership" to assign billing ownership to another user. Only the billing owner can access this page and manage the subscription.
- Click "Add/Reduce seats" to adjust the number of seats in your team.
- Click "History" and "Change details" to view and download past invoices or update your company billing info.
If you decide to switch from a monthly plan to an annual plan, Stripe will immediately charge you the prorated difference. For example, if you paid $10 for a monthly plan a week ago and upgrade to an annual plan today, Stripe will calculate the remaining unused portion of your monthly payment and apply it toward the annual fee. The remaining balance will be charged accordingly.
Manage Seats
Seats are not added or removed automatically. If you want to invite someone beyond your current seat count, you’ll need to manually add a seat first.
Likewise, if you remove a team member, the number of seats will stay the same — this gives you the flexibility to replace that person without changing your billing.
If you don’t plan to replace them, be sure to manually reduce the seat count after removal.
As for your question about credits:
Whether you are on a monthly or an annual plan, the system works the same way. If you, for example, subscribed on January 1st for 18 seats at $5 per seat, your upfront charge would be $90.
Now, let's say that on January 15 you remove 1 seat. Stripe will automatically calculate the unused portion:
- $5 (monthly seat price) ÷ 30 days ≈ $0.1667 per day
- Unused days: 15
- Credit = 15 days × $0.1667 ≈ $2.50
- This $2.50 credit will be applied toward your next invoice (for example, on February 1).
For an annual plan, the calculation works the same way but across 365 days:
- $4 × 12 months = $48 per seat annually
- $48 ÷ 365 days ≈ $0.1315 per day
- Removing a seat for 120 days would generate: 120 × $0.1315 ≈ $15.78 per seat
- Removing 10 seats for 120 days would generate a credit of approximately $157.80.
Cancel / Reactivate Subscription
Only the billing owner can cancel the subscription from the Billing > Settings page. To do so, simply click "Cancel subscription" and confirm the action.
Once canceled, your subscription will not renew, and no new charges will be made. You will retain full access to the system until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will be locked and data access will be restricted.
The "Cancel subscription" link will then change to "Reactivate subscription". If you change your mind and wish to resume your subscription before the billing period ends, just click that link to restore your previous plan.
Please note that, in accordance with our Terms of Service, we do not provide refunds for unused time on either monthly or annual subscriptions.
